    Egusi also known as wild watermelon, Ibara, Egusi melon, Agushi and Agusi belongs to the family of watermelon. It is native to Central and West Africa. It is also cultivated in the countries such as Northern Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leon and Ghana. The seeds are a great source of protein and fat. This plant is usually cultivated for its oily seed. The oil is derived from kernel which is used for illumination, soap making and cooking. It could be refined and used for table uses. It has higher value and possesses better quality in comparison to cotton seed oil. It is a great source of methionine, tryptophan and arginine. It also possesses small content of carbohydrate and calcium.
